Ulrikka S. Gernes was born 1965 in Sweden to Danish parents. She is the author of eleven collections of poetry, as well as short stories, essays, art criticism, lyrics, texts for children and travel writing. In 2001 A Sudden Sky, selected poems translated into English by Per Brask and Patrick Friesen, was published by Brick Books. Frayed Opus for Strings & Wind Instruments, also translated from the Danish by Per Brask and Patrick Friesen, was published by Brick Books in the autumn of 2015, and recently short-listed for the Griffin Poetry Prize. She has read at Canadian festivals including Eden Mills, Thin Air Winnipeg, Kingston Writers Fest, Calgary Wordfest, Vancouver Writers fest, and IFOA Toronto, as well as numerous other locations around the world. She is managing the estate and artistic legacy of her father Poul Gernes and lives in Copenhagen, Denmark with her teenage daughter.
